Attesting Spanish Documents for the UAEBefore you can use your Spanish documents in the UAE, you’ll need to have them attested. Whether it’s a degree qualification, a birth, marriage or death certificate, or any other Spanish personal or company document, let us handle it – we’ll take away all the hassle for you. How does it work?Attesting a Spanish document can be complicated, especially as the process differs depending on the type of document and who you’re presenting it to. Often the document may also need to be translated into English or Arabic. We’ve outlined below the usual process that documents need to go through, but please bear in mind that this can vary depending on what you need to attest. Initial Certification Notarisation & CertificationMost documents start by needing to be notarised and certified. During this stage, a notary public will check the document is legitimate and sign & stamp it accordingly. Legal Translation Translation from Spanish to EnglishAny document written in Spanish will need to be translated into English. Then, the English translation is processed rather than the original, Spanish document. For qualifications and birth, marriage or death certificates that are already in English, this step is not required. MAEUEC in Spain Apostille Legalisation in SpainBefore documents can be presented to the UAE Embassy in Madrid, most need to have been legalised with a legalisation stamp. In Spain this is applied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, known locally as the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Unión Europea y Cooperación (MAEUEC). In some cases, instead of an Apostille, documents will alternatively be processed with the signature of a national or regional court official, or be certified by the Chamber of Commerce. UAE Embassy in Madrid UAE Embassy AttestationThe final step in Spain is to have the document stamped, known as attested, by the UAE Embassy in Madrid. During this stage an official UAE-government sticker and seal is applied to the document. This confirms to authorities in the UAE that the document has completed all the required legalisation steps in Spain. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UAE) ![]() MoFA Attestation (UAE)Once the document has reached the UAE, it requires a further attestation stamp by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This confirms that your document has been processed correctly in Spain. Some employers make arrangements to handle this for you, so you should check whether you need to complete this yourself or not. If you’d prefer to complete this process yourself, we can arrange for the required PCR test to be carried out before you attend, if you’d like. If your document does not require translation (see the next section), then once the MOFA stamp has been applied your document is ready for use in the UAE. Translation Translation from English into ArabicIn certain circumstances, your document may also require translation into Arabic. Again, your employer may handle this for you so best to check. If required, the whole document and its relevant stamps are translated from English into Arabic by a recognised certified translator. Once the translation has been done, then everything has been completed to make it fully useable within the UAE. Attestation Notes
